  • What is good about bamboo?

» Bamboo is Sustainable , Fast regeneration Material

Babamboo_1mboo has also gained a reputation as an eco-friendly, highly renewable source of material. Compared to wood it grows much faster because bamboo is a grass not a wood. Bamboo can grow up to 47 inches in 24 hours and 78½ feet high in 40 to 50 days. It takes about 3–5 years for bamboo to reach full maturity. On the other hand, a pole of bamboo can regenerate to its full mass in just six months! Bamboo can be continuously re-harvested every 3 years, without causing damage to the plant system and surrounding environment. During the time it takes to regenerate, the bamboo plant's root system stays intact so erosion is prevented.

Continuous harvesting of this woody grass every 3-7 years, actually improves the overall health of the plant... Traditional hard woods can take 20 – 120 years to mature. In the meantime, there is less oxygen produced, less carbon dioxide consumed, and more soil runoff in the spot where that tree was harvested - all producing negative environmental effects.

It is believed that if bamboo were planted on a mass basis it could completely reverse the effects of global warming in just 6 years, and provide a renewable source of food, building material, and erosion prevention.

» Bamboo is well known for its Strength and Durability

bamboo_2Bamboo is a fascinating material due to its incredible strength, regenerative properties, and its natural aesthetic beauty. In structural engineering tests, bamboo has a higher tensile strength than many alloys of steel, and a higher compressive strength than many mixtures of concrete. It even has a higher strength to weight ratio than graphite.

Bamboo has been used as the standard building material for the majority of the world for thousands of years. There are many examples of buildings constructed entirely of bamboo, which are now several hundred years old. Due to their strength, these structures have even withstood 9.0 magnitude earthquakes.

  • What is engineered wood cabinets?

Medium-density fibreboard (MDF) with solid wood veneer was used for this cabinet line.

MDF is an engineered wood product formed by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibers, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure.MDF is more dense than plywood. It is made up of separated fibers,(not wood  veneers) but can be used as a building material similar in application to plywood. It is stronger and much more dense than normal particle board.MDF_sample

The MDF we use is CARB-certified as well ! California Air Resources Board(CARB) certification means that the engineered wood used in Demetra Cabinetry meets California’s tough formaldehyde emission standards for composite wood product.

Our eco facts

Environmentally friendly (also eco-friendly, nature friendly, and green) are synonyms used to refer to goods and service, laws, guidelines,  and policies considered to inflict minimal or no harm on the enviroment. To make consumers aware, environmentally friendly goods and services often are marked  with eco friendly.

» What are the ECO facts in Demetra Cabinetry?

  • plywood_sample_1We use 11-layer ¾-inch furniture grade CARB-certified plywood in our cabinet bodies.California Air Resources Board(CARB) certification means that the hardwood plywood used in Demetra Cabinetry meets California’s tough formaldehyde emission standards for composite wood products.

  • Green finish : our plywood cabinet bodies are finished with UV cured lacquer on an automated coating

line. UV cured lacquer provides two key benefits:

» It's GREEN - UV Lacquer is solvent free which is know to contribute to global warming.

» It's DURABLE - So durable it is the chosen finishing method for pre-finish wood flooring. A finish so tough that you could walk on it.

  • Our Eco cabinets: Demetra carries two lines of eco friendly cabinets:

» bamboo cabinets:please read our  mEco bamboo cabinets for details.
